Best HDTV for 2009-10?
I’m looking to invest in an HDTV. I’m a serious gamer (PS3) and I love
Blu-Ray. My current tv is a Toshiba Regza, which I think is only a 720p.
I want to upgrade to a LED 1080p type. So I would like to know, which is the best HDTV I can get my hands on right now that can be over 60" (ie no OLED) and what is the best tv I can get that is the best display with 3D capability.
If you want the best HD tv in the market you’ll have to buy the Pioneer Elite Kuro 60". It is priced higher than any tv in the market, around $7.000. I purchased a Pioneer 4330 back in 2002, a 43" plasma tv and is still running strong without any trouble. I purchased it at a discoount price of $6,400. Go online to Home Theater magazine and read the review on the Elite Kuro along with other tv brands. Hope this will help you.

No LED back-lit LCD TV is greater than 55". The best TV (picture quality) money can buy is Pioneer Kuro. Several models are available at the 60" size.

(1) The best HDTV you’ll get is going to be Plasma. Plasma is still superior to LED LCD. It still provides better colors, truer blacks, and deeper contrast. Plasma is still inherently flawless in motion playback because it has a near instantaneous response time. LCD, even LED LCD, still must rely on 120Hz/240Hz refresh rates to hide its motion blur problems (it helps a lot, but its not 100%, and its not Plasma good).
The best option is going to be a Panasonic Viera G or V series. Those are the best choices you can get right now. While the Pioneer Kuro Elite is an amazing TV, it hasn’t been upgraded now for a couple of years, and its not going to be. Pioneer announced a while back that they are leaving the TV manufacturing business. So go with a Panasonic, they are going to continue to make Plasma, and continue to improve it.
(2) If you must go LED LCD, look to either Samsung LED (or Samsung 9 Series) or Sony XBR 7 (or it might be 8, I forget which is the LED line). But don’t overlook stuff like the Sony XBR 9, which is an amazing line and uses some kind of proprietary CCFL technology from Sony (apparently vastly better than normal CCFL).
(3) If you want a 3D HDTV you have to wait until next year. Sony and Panasonic I know are releasing those sets next year. Samsung might as well, but I’m not 100% sure.
Do know that there is VERY little 3D content out there to play back on those TVs. So if you get it, that feature will sit there and do nothing the majority of the time. Plus you will be buying a 1st generation 3D TV then. The technology will likely improve a lot as more content comes out. I’d just get a wicked regular TV right now, then in 4-5 years time look at 3D, IF, there is actually more content out there to even watch.
If you are set on 3D though, then I’d go with what Panasonic releases next year personally. I think that will be the better image quality option.
