LED tv’s are just starting to appear on the market (light emiting diodes), and the price are still high compare to LCD (liquid crystal diodes) and plasma. I won’t worry about it, unless you are the one that has to have the latest TV in the market. When Plasma first came out the price was in the $20,000 range for a Pioneer 50 inch, I paid $6,400 (42") in 2004 for one and last August a Sumsung 58" for $2,600. LED’s are a thinner tv than LCD or plasma. References :
There is more than one type of LED tv. The one that Sony has is an OLED and is very expensive. There is another type of LED tv that is actually an LCD tv with LED’s used instead of fluorescent tube for backlighting. LED backlighting is supposed to improve contrast and also lower power consumption. Your LCD tv is fine. It is just that technology keeps improving. References :
Hmmm there is no led Tv……to the person who said that Lol i think you need to research Sony has allready released a 7 inch Oled screen in japan and the new nokia N97 will have a oled screen.. Samsung and sony have bot released LCD/LED lcd display just like your tv but instead of using Mercury filled tubes emiting light. they use led smaller less energy using and apparently last longer… like previous person says unless you need the latest tv your will be fine.. I personaly have purchased the UE46B7020 series and the difference is thinner built n wifi and the contrast is next to none but comes with a nice price tag lol References :
There are LED backlit LCD TVs and there are OLED TVs.
LED backlit TVs are LCD screens that are capable of actually turning off certain pixels, which allows for a far blacker black, a higher contrast ratio, and lower power consumption.
OLED TVs are still a developing technology, and I don’t believe you can buy one larger than 11 inches yet. And that 11 inch one is ridiculously priced. They’re gorgeous though. They have a demo one at a local AV store and it’s so bright and has such great colours. And it’s only about 3/16" thick. Amazing technology.
They were going to start to appear around now, however the recession stopped the major companies from building the plants capable of producing the glass needed to make large OLEDs References :
