test videocap sabotage 02.mpg
-part 2-
first video cap test pointing my SD camcorder at my HDTV. the footage is MAG (SVER defending on sabotage against Raven)
.
in game, i wanted to try out the acoustic locator. i removed the fore-grip on my AK103 and that was a bad mistake. the kick-back is very noticeable. after i made this recording, i’ve respec’d my character to use the Vipera2 SMG with all the extra attachments and skills that apply. the AK103 does have more stopping power but the 30 round clip is a nuisance compared to the Vipera’s 64 round clip.
.
the game lasted the full 20 minutes so i’m only uploading the game play. SVER won, and i was the top of my squad, but it was not a very impressive match.
.
the camcorder is a Sony DCR-TVR260 digital-8
the TV is a Samsung HL-T5689S 56″ LED DLP
the camcorder is just behind me about 10-15 feet away from the TV. the TV volume is low, so i don’t broadcast explosions over the PS3 bluethooth headset. consequently, my voice will be the loudest parts of the audio. the talking at the start is proximity chat from the other squads. it comes through the TV rather than my squad’s chat which goes through the bluetooth. you won’t head my squad’s chat in this video. proxy-chat also lets you hear your enemies, which is a cool feature. good on Zipper for that one ![]()
.
all-in-all the video quality isn’t great. i had the camcorder in 16:9 mode but it’s still SD. i zoomed in on the TV, but the resulting files (720 x 480) were 2.2GB for each 10 minute segment. i can barely ready my name in the squad list (bottom right) and the video has interlacing artifacts.
.
i tried using DivX and got files that were 122MB and look OK on the PC, but they were not pretty on youtube. also, i cropped 30-50 pixels from the top, bottom, left and right of the video to isolate the TV screen. the resulting videos were 672 x 384
.
this test is using TMPEnc with MPG-1 compression. i was able to crop the same as the DivX but TMPEnc rescaled the output back to 720 x 480 and i used the “double” method to de-interlace the video. the resulting files are 603MB per 10 minute segment. we’ll see how they look on youtube.
