Which one – LED backlit or LED sidelit or neither?!?
Am I correct in my understanding:
Backlit- is suppsed to handle the on and off of the LEDs (able to turn darker) and can be viewed more from side to side but is not very thin. (not a factor to me)
Sidelit- thinner, less viewable from side and cant turn off the LEDs for a darker picture as well as backlit can.
Plasma- is cheaper, can almost match all specs of LEDs and is available larger than 55".
I was interested in the the Samsung UN55B8000 and found out there is an epidemic (2year old or less tv’s) from their power supply as in a web search "samsung tv clicking".
I was going to pick up the sidelit LED TV tomorrow and I am so confused now. Please, a down and dirty on making a choice not coming from a salesman. Thank you
Your understanding is correct. LED backlighting is a significant advance over fluorescent backlighting. The two methods–edge and full matrix ("backlit")–each have an advantage. Full matrix allows for deeper blacks and it saves power by only lighting the LEDs that are necessary at any time. Edge lighting makes a super-thin TV possible, like one inch or so.
Both LED types, being the latest advance, are very pricey right now. You can definitely save money with plasma if the shortcomings of plasma don’t bother you–more power consumption, heavier, and a lot of reflection in a lighted room. On the other hand, the plasma picture is as good as the best picture you can get with an LCD (generally, anyway), and the characteristic fast-motion blur of LCDs is not a factor with plasma.

Dell Laptop: Which LCD screen should I choose?
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LED LCD (1440×900) & 2.0 M [Included in Price]
Full Hi Definition, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1920×1200) & 2.0 M [add $125 or $4/month1]
This is on a 15" XPS 1530. At the size of the screen I think the cheaper, thinner and more energy efficient LED back-lit is the better option. Is this resolution really noticeable on the more expensive option? Can I output to a TV at 1080i with this? Is output just a measure of the video card? I rarely take a laptop on the go and will use it as a HTPC. I stream a lot of videos, but they’re hardly HD quality.
For you it sounds like the standard card is sufficient. I’ve got a larger monitor (1920×1200) which is great for watching movies (widescreen) because of the real estate. But if you don’t watch many movies then I would go for the other.
The 1080i shouldn’t be a problem as it is a factor of the video card, not the monitor. When you plug your TV in you are connecting directly to the card.

is this a good laptop? 10 pts, help!?
i customized it on costco.com it is the hp dv4. 2 months ago i got a hp g60 and after 2 weeks it broke, freezing, problems with recovery drive……then 1 week ago i got a hp dv5z. it is the top of the line! i ordered it with 400 hdd, when i got it it only had 325 out of 360! now it is so slow, freezed, it uninstalled a few programs, disabbled part of the speakers somehow, and it came with a few scratches. for the 1500$ i want it to be just about perfect. call me picky, i agree. im going to take it back, but how does this one look instead of getting the same thing? also its cheaper!

should i get regular brightview or the led brightview. whats the difference? also i am getting the lightscribe instead of the blueray. it still plays any dvd but blue ray ones, right? thankyou
Go for the LED display. The LED LCD costs a bit more because it uses LED technology to light the display. Normal displays use a CCFL LCD bulb.
LED LCDs also last longer, are THINNER, and use less energy than the CCFL displays. LED quality and color is also more brilliant than the standard CCFL display.

Yes, that drive plays DVDs and CDs, but not BluRays.
However, don’t order the Lightscribe. What it does it allows you to burn images straight onto a disk – so that you have a nifty design on one side. However, this only works with special lightscribe CDs which tend to be costly. You might never even get around to using the Lightscribe function. You might as well get a regular DVD+/-RW or the BluRay read/write drive.

The price may be a bit steep. If it’s over $1300 without any warranty, you might want to look around for a less expensive laptop. The graphics card isn’t that great. You can probably get most of that hardware you’ve listed there for closer to around $1000.
I mean, you could get a totally bomb gaming laptop from Gateway (P-FX series) with better hardware than that for the price of $1300
A NOTE ABOUT HARDDRIVE SPACE. The advertised storage is not the actual storage. When it displayed that you only had 360GB of space, that’s the real amount. When advertising, they consider 1000MB as equal to 1GB – they round down to get a neat number and to inflate the number of storage; however, in reality 1024MB = 1GB. Then, some of that space is used up for pre-installed programs, drivers, and Operating System files.
PLASMA TVS?????!!!!!!!!?
I used to own a Plasma TV a few years ago and the one I’ve had before I couldn’t lay down because it will ruin the TV;but now I’m buying one next week over a a led lcd because the picture quality is still better and it still shows better on my movies and games than led lcd, more hz, and its a lot cheaper. I was told on the Plasmas today you can lay them down, and they last just as long as led lcds and dont burn as much power unlike before I’ve heard stories that some Plasmas lasted only 2 years. So are the Plasmas today better now, able to lay down in car to take home from store,do they last as long as led lcds? Is the Samsung 1080p 50in 600 hz 2,000,000 contrast or the Panasonic 1080p 50in 600hz 40,000:1 native contrast ratio (2,000,000:1 dynamic) better?
No you still cant lay them down. Cause the center of the glass becomes the weak point which can cause a fractures on the glass if you hit a large bump or from just large vibrations. In fact you can even get the store to help you lay it down.
